AIVP – The worldwide network of port cities

Context

From the 27th to the 29th of November 2024, the city of Lisbon was chosen to host the 19th World Conference Cities & Ports of the Associação Internacional de Cidades e Portos (AIVP). The AIVP is the International Association of Cities and Ports, which has brought together more than 200 port and urban key players from 5 continents for more than 35 years.

Lisbon became the stage for a conference bringing together representatives from 50 port cities around the world. White Glove, in partnership with AIVP, took part in the organisation/production of this world-renowned event and was responsible for the human resources support. More than 400 participants gathered at the Champalimaud Foundation to discuss the future of port cities.

During these days, issues related to sustainability and commitment to the future were discussed, with the signing of the 2030 Agenda. The Port of Lisbon also presented innovative projects to the panel.

In addition to the Champalimaud Foundation, parallel sessions were held at the Lisbon Cruise Terminal, the Infante D. Henrique Nautical School (ENIDH), the Alcântara Maritime Station and the EDP Foundation (in the old electricity museum – MAAT museum). The idea was to give participants the opportunity to get to know other infrastructures that are relevant to the city-port relationship in the Lisbon region.

The conference gala took place at the Pátio da Galé (a historic Portuguese building), which welcomed 300 guests who had the opportunity to enjoy Portuguese culture and heritage: Fado, with Fado singer Cristiana Águas, and typical Portuguese cuisine from executive chef André Gerardo and pastry chef Gabriel Campino.
